Review: Amelia's Anthology of Illustration
When I was a child, I was obsessed with books. I loved the smell of them, the feel of them and particularly enjoyed those beautifully illustrated ones such as Alice in Wonderland and The Tiger That Came to Tea. I'd read them over and over then spend forever looking at all the images and drawings.
I used to spend a good half hour before bed, picking out about three or four titles to read. Then, I'd stay up quite late pouring over my treasure trove of literature under my bedside lamp until I'd hear a foot on the stair and I'd immediately hide all my books under my pillow, switch the light off and pretend to be asleep.
Now, 20 years later - I found myself late last night experiencing that same lovely feeling when I settled down, all cosy and warm, in my bed with Amelia's Anthology of Illustration. My husband thought I was mad but I spent a good minute just smelling it! Breathing in the gorgeous scents that you get from a new, glossy book.
The book is a limited edition hardcover and is so beautifully presented I instantly thought what a true gem! A bookshelf staple! And I'd decided that before I'd even opened it!
Inside, the book offers inspiration on many different levels and features profiles of 40 illustrators from across the globe who were chosen via an open brief on Amelia's Magazine website alongside simple explanations and dazzling illustrations of renewable technologies.
Amelia's Anthology of Illustration looks gorgeous on my coffee table and everyone picks it up to have a peak! What's more, it has been printed in the UK using environmentally responsible vegetable inks on FSC approved paper so it's ethical too.
Amelia Gregory is the author of this book. She started Amelia's Magazine in 2004 and after 10 issues and five years decided to call it quits in print, switching over her efforts to the website and publishing books. Amelia's Anthology is a gorgeous feast of illustration and work.
It's published by Amelia's House and is available to buy on Amelia's Website and stockists can be found here!
