Readers' Studios is a lot like Readers' Wives, except we're talking about photos of some of the most stimulating creative workspaces instead of... well, you know.
Today we're taking a peek at the studio of Scottish textile designer and maker, Mhairi Wild.
In Mhairi's own words
"I'm a textile designer/maker who's fortunate enough to live in the beautiful Scottish countryside and have a garden big enough for my studio. We designed and built it in 2003 and it didn't take me long to fill it.
I work with a variety of equipment, including knitting and sewing machines, a spinning wheel and a four-shaft loom, so the space very quickly disappeared. I also do a lot of hand dyeing, so there is a dedicated sink area for all the wet work. The dual aspect windows look out to a wild flower garden and across to the kitchen, so I can wave to whoever is making the tea.
My work is inspired by the colour and texture of the Scottish coast, so I have a dedicated 'inspiration corner', which I change to match whichever project I'm working on.
One of the best things about my studio is being able to make as much mess as I want. My design process involves a lot of mixed media work, using a broad variety of materials; in other words, loads of stuff and lots of creative clutter.
Having this dedicated space is key to my working life. I'd be lost without it."
