UCA Maidstone opens doors for MA Show

Graduating MA students at the University for the Creative Arts, Maidstone, will be opening an exciting exhibition of their work. The show will open to the public at 5pm on 25 January at the UCA campus in Oakwood Park.

The exhibition will feature an exciting variety of traditional and contemporary media created during an intensive 18-month period of study, and will run until 28 January, open between 10am and 5pm daily. Visitors can expect to see a range of works including video screenings, photographs, handmade books, performance, poster designs and prints.

MA courses in Film, Video and Photography, Graphic Design, Illustration, and Printmaking will all be represented.Supporting students in expanding their thinking and technical skills, the courses are all designed to enable artists and designers to develop and refine their critical and conceptual engagement within their practice.

MA Artists' Film, Video and Photography builds on an established tradition of experimental cinema and artists video at Maidstone. Tutors include Prof. Nicky Hamlyn author of Film Art Phenomena, and Prof. Andrew Kotting, leading British filmmaker who directed the critically acclaimed feature films Ivul (2010), This Filthy Earth (2001), and Gallivant (1997).

The MA Graphic Design course boasts a range of industry expertise. Encouraging speculative approaches to the subject, students have been led by Phil Jones and Mark Sanderson, lead academic for the university's 'Expanded Page' research cluster.

Building on an incredible tradition and national recognition of printmaking and illustration at UCA Maidstone, students on the masters courses in these subjects have developed a variety of works for this year's show. Exploring a broad range of technical possibilities, students have expanded on issues of narrative and story-telling in contemporary image making.

Terry Perk, Subject Leader for the Fine Arts MA courses at UCA said: "This exhibition is the result of an intensive period of study. The variety of media and conceptual approaches that the MA fosters is amply demonstrated in the work on display, which ranges from documentary films to hand-made books and from performances to site-specific installations."
