Barbara Hepworth’s contemporary, Henry Moore, will be the star attraction at Yorkshire’s inspiring new gallery next week.
The Hepworth Wakefield will be hosting a special talk with Anita Feldman, The Henry Moore Foundation’s Head of Collections and Exhibitions on Thursday 15 September, between 6.30 – 8.30pm. The evening will explore Moore's use of plaster as a medium for sculpture and look at the changing perceptions of the medium.
The talk coincides with the current exhibition at the Foundation's headquarters in Perry Green in Hertfordshire. Fresh from a successful début at the Musée Rodin in Paris, Henry Moore: Plasters runs until 30 October. The exhibition was in preparation for four years, with plaster originals for some of Moore's most iconic works included in the display. Many sculptures are on show for the first time in the UK, just a stone's throw from the studios in which they were made.
Frances Guy, Head of Collections at The Hepworth Wakefield said: “We’ve had such a positive response to the Hepworth plasters here at the gallery and with the Henry Moore: Plasters exhibition at Perry Green we are starting to see a shift in the way plasters are being presented in galleries, as works of art in their own right. With the Hepworth Family Gift, we have showcased these working plasters as sculptures in their own right and I think audiences will be interested to find out more.”
Tickets for the Henry Moore Plaster talk cost £7 (£5 concessions) and can be booked in person at the gallery or by telephone, please ring 01924 247360.
