The only public exhibition of its kind, The Exit Strategy showcases work by senior art students from University College School, giving audiences a unique opportunity to discover artists at the earliest stages of their practice.
The artists of The Exit Strategy have found an articulate and compelling voice which provides an insight into their hopes and fears. The transition from the security of childhood to an adult world sees them facing a future more difficult for their generation than any other in half a century, yet their work reveals a sophisticated understanding of their place in the world. Ranging from installation and painting, to sculpture and video work, the artists demonstrate clarity in the expression of ideas and a technical confidence which belies their years.
Demanding the same critical eye as other publicly displayed artists, the central premise of The Exit Strategy is that art should be critiqued on its own merits and that the age of its creator irrelevant.
“Our aim is to demonstrate that the work of young artists can be as innovative, relevant and technically accomplished as the work currently seen at the forefront of contemporary art practice,” said Alastair Gray, Head of Art, UCS.
