Spectacular display by 795 of the UK's most creative graduates

Unique sculptures, eye-catching shoes, and a host of award-winning designs created by 795 students graduating from De Montfort University’s (DMU) Faculty of Art and Design this summer will be on display from this weekend until 23 June.

Work on display, including some items available for sale, will range from exquisite fabrics and textiles, ceramics, jewellery and lingerie, to painting, photography and video.

Graphic design and animation projects, architectural drawings and models, and a wide range of other designs will also be on view at the annual show, which usually attracts around 4,000 visitors including many prospective employers looking to recruit the newest creative talent from one of the most varied art and design faculties in the country.

Dean of the Faculty Dr Gerard Moran said: “More than 21 areas of the faculty will be transformed into gallery space exhibiting the dazzling array of work from the portfolios of 795 creative graduates. From fine art to contour fashion, furniture design to architecture, every area will showcase the creativity and innovation for which DMU students are renowned.”

Students showcasing their work will include award-winners and high-fliers who have already been offered jobs in their chosen field or seen their talent recognised and rewarded such as:

Footwear design student Eleanor Ferry, 22, from Guernsey, who won a competition for MODA with shoes which use interchangeable straps and accessories, and fellow student Jennifer Brook, 22, from Huddersfield, whose Olympic theme shoe is to be manufactured and sold by sports footwear firm Gola;

Fashion design student Sarika Pancholi, 22, from Leicester, who won the David Band textiles Award at this year’s Graduate Fashion Week.

Sarah Greenwood, 21, from Leicester, who has already been offered a job with world-renowned fashion company Abercrombie and Fitch in the USA. During her degree she won a competition with plus size lingerie firm Curvy Kate which took her to a Paris lingerie and swimwear trade show;

Game art design student Thomas Wicks, 23, from Enfield, London, who won a one-year internship with BMW’s visualisation and design department in Munich during his degree;

Open to the public free of charge, the 2011 Degree Show will be held in DMU’s Fletcher building, Mill Lane, Leicester, LE1 9BH, from 11am-4pm on Saturday and Sunday this weekend, and 10am-5pm on weekdays.
