Artists from both dance and visual arts worlds come together to present a unique artistic fusion of performance, installation and film curated by Siobhan Davies and staged within the atmospheric warehouse walls of Bargehouse on London’s South Bank [4-13 November, free admission].
True to her innovative form, Siobhan Davies curates four new commissions by dance artists paired with visual artists who have brought choreographic and visual practice into close contact and stirred together different ways of creating.
Of the four commissioned dance artists, Henry Montes, Gill Clarke, and Sarah Warsop are partnered respectively with video and performance artist Marcus Coates, Turner Prize-shortlisted Lucy Skaer, and craft artist Tracey Rowledge. The fourth, Deborah Saxon, is working with Henry Montes and Bruce Sharp, who works in video, sound and drawing.
Siobhan Davies Commissions continues Davies’ approach of creating work to be seen at close range, and based on a dialogue between art forms. All of the pieces, including performance works, are on show for five hours daily, and visitors are free to arrive and leave as they please.
Siobhan Davies Dance is one of the country’s most distinctive dance companies, formed by Siobhan Davies in 1988. Choreographer Siobhan Davies advocates for the wider recognition of dance as a significant and extraordinary art form. The company’s RIBA award-winning building, Siobhan Davies Studios in Southwark, South London, provides a local, national and international resource for learning about movement and dance, and a meeting ground to discuss new ideas. It presents a varied programme of events, performances, talks, artists’ sharings and visual art exhibitions. Find further information at www.siobhandavies.com.
