Wrexham and District is the home of the 2011 National Eisteddfod. The National Eisteddfod is one of the world’s greatest cultural festivals and will be held from 30 July – 6 August 2011 on the land of Lower Berse Farm - a short trip from the town busy town of Wrexham and within easy reach of the main road for those travelling from across Wales and beyond.
Music, dance, visual arts, original performances, family activities – there’s something for everyone at the National Eisteddfod, and with over 160,000 visitors every year, it’s a great place to meet up with old friends – and make new ones.
The Eisteddfod is held on the ‘Maes’, and the Pavilion is the focal point of the official competing and cultural ceremonies, but hundreds of activities take place all over the Maes throughout the week. With over 300 stands, it’s a shopper’s Mecca, with gifts of all types – to suit every pocket. You don’t have to speak Welsh to have a great time at the Eisteddfod – there’s plenty for everyone to see and do, so we look forward to seeing you for a feast of activities for the whole family in Wrexham in summer 2011.
The Visual Arts Exhibition at the National Eisteddfod is one of the pinnacles of the fine and applied arts in Wales. Up to 2,500 entries are submitted and Y Lle Celf at the festival attracts up to 40,000 visitors. In Y Lle Celf at the Wrexham and District National Eisteddfod, there will be a large multi media exhibition which includes both fine and applied art (including the moving image and performance art). Y Lle Celf is a partnership project between the National Eisteddfod and the Arts Council of Wales. Entries are now closed for this year, but find out more here.
"This celebration of innovation and excellence offers people a broad view of contemporary creative activity in Wales," said Eisteddfod Visual Arts Officer Robyn Tomos
During the Eisteddfod there'll be a whole host of exciting performances to choose from. Eisteddfod Organiser, Hywel Wyn Edwards, said: “There’s a number of well known names and faces from the entertainment business joining us in Wrexham, and I hope that the programme we have will appeal to our regular visitors and to those who live within the Eisteddfod catchment area this year.
