Kiev: First Impressions

A new photography exhibition opens tomorrow at Café Cossachok at Trongate 103 and runs until 2nd February, worth a visit for the food and decor at Café Cossachok alone!

The Glasgow photographer, Robert Burns, befriended the Dimitriev family from Kiev while on holiday in Crete during September 2006. On returning to Glasgow he kept in touch with the family by email and decided to spend Christmas on the 7th of January 2007 with the Dimitrievs in Kiev. This visit was the start of a love affair with the city and its people. The Drum (Baraban) Bar and Restaurant near Independence Square became his office where he lunched each day and planned his daily shooting script. The Drum Bar is run by Euan MacDonald from Kelvinside, a little bit of Scotland far from home. Robert is planning another photographic trip to the city in August 2010.
