Hhymn play free gig at QUAD

There is a chance to see up and coming band Hhymn in QUAD on Friday 21st January. East Midland's based Hhymn, who are a favourite of BBC 6 Music's Tom Robinson and Mat Horne, will be performing a free live acoustic set. Hhymn perform with what they call “a wilderness world of windmills, zithers, mandolins, ukuleles, harmoniums, dulcimers, double basses, brass and brushes”. Hhymn boast a sublime set of timeless songs including; These Hands, Land Of Souls, What Will Be, In The Depths, Paper Trail and Slow Life, that make up their mesmerising debut album, which is due for release later this year.

Described as 'Alternative Folk', Hhymn's plaintive vocals and slow-burning but infectious songs bring to mind everyone from Bon Iver and Beirut to The Be Good Tanyas, Will Oldham and Tim Hardin. Hhymn have been causing quite a stir since they first got together in 2008 with rapturous reviews and sessions on BBC Radio Nottingham’s The Beat. Their debut EP sold out after their first couple of gigs, pricking up the discerning ears of Tom Robinson, who featured the band for his BBC6 show Introducing and describes the band as “Magnificently yearning”. Described as “music that is really quite different to anything else that’s out there at the moment” by Entertainment Focus, Hhymn “present themselves as a band who know exactly what they want to do and do it well!” (Shout4music.com).

Hhymn will be performing their live acoustic set in QUAD’s Cafe bar on Friday 21st January at 8:30pm. Entrance is free. For more information please see [www.derbyquad.co.uk/whats-on/other-events/hhymn] or contact QUAD Box office on (01332) 290606.
