Flight Exhibition opens at the Glass Room, Bristol

Three local illustrators have joined forces to create a stunning new selection of work celebrating the beauty of birds in flight, which will be on display in the Glass Room in Bristol throughout August.

Flight is a free exhibition from Bristol-based illustrators Dave Bain, Lea Lloyd and Paul Farrell and it features a collection of new creations, which express the energy, freedom, form and character of each bird species when in flight. Expect striking images of crows and ravens playing in the wind, seagulls gliding effortlessly along the seashore and buzzards soaring silently about the countryside.

The three artists behind the exhibition each have different takes on the art of flight. Dave Bain, inspired by bird-life and nature, has set out to capture dramatic moments in flight on large scale. His work combines a love of colour, texture and intense pattern, influenced by his ongoing illustration practice.

Bristol-born Paul Farrell has always been interested in ornithology and it has played a key role in the main body of his work. Paul’s simple, graphic style has attempted to highlight the beauty in bird flight. In his work we can view this characteristic form and energy. Paul said: "The fact that birds fly is one of the most amazing things about them. When a bird is flying one can see their plumage at its best, identify them by their shape and marvel at their speed and grace."

Also showing a collection of limited edition prints that celebrate nature’s beauty is screen printer Lea Lloyd. Lea combines her passion for birds and pattern for this flight themed exhibition. Birds have appeared in Lea Lloyd's printed designs over the years and for this show you will see her usual bold, graphical prints with a strong pattern influence.

The trio been invited to exhibit their latest work in the Glass Room by Drawn in Bristol, a new project which celebrates the work of local illustrators by providing them a professional platform to exhibit and sell their work.

Drawn in Bristol director Bryony Morgan said: "Bristol is home to some hugely talented illustrators that simply do not get the exposure other types of artists receive - it is time to change that!"

All are welcome to the Opening night on Thursday 4th August, 6-9pm. RSVP on Facebook.
