Prominent artist, Dudley Edwards, who made his name in the 1960s on the swinging London art scene, will this month be joining fashion powerhouse, Harvey Nichols in Leeds, for a season of beautiful art for autumn.
Dudley Edwards’ latest collection of prints, based on dancers from Northern Ballet, will be shown throughout the Fourth Floor Restaurant and Bar and are available to buy, with a percentage of profits going to Friends of Alfie Martin; a charity working to improve facilities for new born babies requiring urgent neonatal equipment and transportation facilities.
The series of photographic prints, exploring the form of the dancers at Northern Ballet in rehearsals, will be available to view from the 18th of August; with exclusive prints available on Wednesday 13th September when Harvey Nichols will host an auction evening to raise money for the charity.
Edwards career was launched in the 1960s as he became a co-founder of the pop-art collective BEV with fellow artist and visionary Douglas Binder. Together Dudley and Doug were innovators of customised cars, street murals, light shows and painted furniture. Paul McCartney’s iconic piano being an early example.
In 1975 Dudley was commissioned by Yves St Laurent to photograph the Harlem Ballet at The Rockefeller Plaza in New York. His latest venture - to photograph The Northern Ballet dancers in rehearsals for Harvey Nichols has been a natural progression from his earlier works.
Speaking of his most recent works, Dudley said: “I am thrilled to have been asked to take part in such an exciting project and can’t wait to see my latest study of the Northern Ballet dancers displayed at Harvey Nichols. I have worked hard on the collection and hope to raise significant funds for Friends of Alfie Martin, a charity close to my heart.”
