On Sunday, 30 May, Medway artist Peter Reeds will auction off his four paintings of the now-demolished Aveling and Porter building. Proceeds from the auction of the first painting will be donated to the City of Rochester Society.
The ‘Quadriptych Of Destruction’ depicts the gradual destruction of the Aveling and Porter building, which formerly stood as a striking Edwardian reminder of Strood’s industrial heritage on the riverside opposite Rochester castle. Peter Reeds was on hand to paint at three of the Save Medway’s Heritage protests against the building’s demolition, returning once more to capture the Aveling and Porter in its demolished state.

Peter Reeds’ paintings are typically vital, heartfelt and full of life, products of feeling and reaction to his subject. He describes the Quadriptych as ‘the most honest paintings I have ever produced: there is so much of me in them’. You can see for yourself on Sunday – all four paintings are up for sale, so make sure to bring your chequebook.
The auction also marks the end of the 'Destruction of the Aveling and Porter' exhibition at The Deaf Cat café, which showcases local artists’ reaction to the historic building’s demolition. The auction starts at 14:30 on Sunday 30 May 2010 at the Deaf Cat Café, Rochester.
