Shillington College

Bread & Butterflies, Professional singing & song writing workshop

Cpulse East Midlands will be running a series of talks to help transfer the skills and knowledge of experts from various creative backgrounds and professions to local business and graduates from March – June 2011.

The first in the series is:

Mellow Baku - Bread and Butterflies, Professional Singing & Song writing

On Wednesday March 30, from 10am to 11.30pm at Phoenix Square Digital Media Centre, ETC Suite 2/3

Practicing creativity as a profession can be a conflict between survival and artistry. As a singer songwriter, the need to ‘find your voice’ is as important as identifying your ‘Unique Selling Point’ - often this means finding many voices in order to be heard.

With over 10 years of performing live, Mellow Baku’s work has covered a wide range of genres venues and engagements, from performing with ska bands in New York to jazz duos in local restaurants; pop session recording in Denmark to touring festivals with Afro beat/Funk collectives, acoustic solo performances and Spoken Word events. Mellow has been self-employed as vocalist and workshop leader for over 8 years. 2010 saw the release of her self-produced debut album Patchwork Prophecies, which sold out of the first CD run.

The Cpulse programme supports and develops the ambitions of creative people in the East Midlands across a broad range of creative disciplines. The project helps put the East Midlands on the map as a key centre of creative production. The project is run by Rob Weale of The Institute of Creative Technologies at DeMontfort University.
