Support John Peel's Legacy

Posted by Katy Cowan in News on Thursday 1st December 2011. Tagged with Music, john peel.

The John Peel Centre for Creative Arts is a lasting tribute to the life and career of the much-loved broadcaster. The centre, which is close to John's Suffolk home, is undergoing major refurbishment which will see the old Stowmarket Corn Exchange transformed into a place where local artists can showcase their skills and audiences can discover new talent.

However, they need to raise £25,000 before Christmas to keep the refurbishment plans on track.

A campaign has been launched on the crowd-funding website AngelShares to raise the money required. The John Peel Centre needs your help to spread the word, encourage more pledges, and help it to reach its target.

John Peel's wife Sheila, who is an honorary patron of the Centre, has said that it will eventually be 'an arts centre that offers a lot of things to a lot of people. John had catholic tastes, so it wasn't just about loud music. He played all sorts of music and that's what we'll be doing. It will be fully developed so that we have rehearsal rooms, performance space and hopefully lots and lots of people will use it'.

You can help by publicising The John Peel Centre's campaign. A blog post, a Facebook update or a tweet will help to raise awareness of The John Peel Centre's cause and the £25,000 it needs.
