Suffolk Photographer Double Accolade
Suffolk based photographer Paul Coghlin has won the international B+W Photography Magazine’s Photographer of the Year 2010 competition as well as being announced as the magazine’s Digital Printer of the Year 2010. Paul named his winning four-photo series for the Photographer Prize "Behind The Eyes". The intention of the series is to encourage the viewer to consider animal consciousness and what an animal may “think” or feel as it looks right back at the viewer. The Printer prize was won by a single image from Paul's Behind The Eyes series, called "Lion's Stare" - the mesmerising lion photograph featured in this article. All the winners’ work will be exhibited at Hooper’s Gallery in London between 3rd and 9th September, as well as the winners receiving their awards on the launch night on the 2nd. The monthly magazine will publish the winning images in an edition later this this year. If this wasn't enough recognition for Paul's remarkable work, he gained his Associateship with the British Institute of Professional Photography (BIPP), after many months of hard work compiling the 20 images required by the institute. Paul also told Creative Boom Ipswich: “To my great surprise, the judges told me that I'd been nominated for the BIPP's prestigious Peter Grugeon Award for my Associateship submission, in the Fine Art category”. Peter Grugeon was the Royal Photographer and some of whose photographs were used as the basis for the Queen's portrait on stamps and many worldwide bank notes. The results for the awards will be announced later in the year. Congratulations Paul.
