Parents of Four Sons Launch Unique ‘Boys-Only’ Online Clothing Store
Having spent many years scouting clothing stores only to find a disappointing range of boys’ clothes, Kerry Oldfield and Paul Bishop took the matter of fashion into their own hands, launching MyKidBrother.co.uk – a boys-only clothing store.
Stocking the latest designs for boys up to sixteen years old, the store carries brands including Fore!! Axel and Hudson (a new U.S brand being donned by some of Hollywood’s elite), familiar names like Ben Sherman and exciting brands like Darkside and Desigual. There’s also a section of unbranded clothes and a unique gift shop.
However, the decision to start the online store also came from a sudden change in family circumstances, as Kerry Oldfield explains: “Like many in the UK, I recently took voluntary redundancy from the Public Sector, having spent eighteen years as a career Civil Servant. So, in a way, it was the perfect opportunity for me to do something I was passionate about, and so far the challenge has proven very rewarding.”
Kerry and Paul operate My Kid Brother using one very sensible rule – only to stock clothes that are the same quality as those they would buy to clothe their own four sons.
On a grander scale, the couple hope that their store will balance out the inequality found in the children’s fashion marketplace – where many department stores do not split their stock equally among the genders – with girls often getting preference when it comes to shelf space.
As Kerry attests, with My Kid Brother, it’s all about boys: “The only girls you’ll find interested in My Kid Brother are the Mothers who are in charge of the credit card. We’re so proud to be a boys-only store, and we hope our range of exciting and high-quality clothes, with free UK delivery, will give parents a better choice than most clothing stores.”
