Heaven 17’s Martyn Ware is to judge a competition giving unsigned musicians in the East Midlands the chance to have their music published.

Cpulse, the pioneering new project to support digital creativity in the region is staging the competition and will distribute CDs of the winner’s music across the East Midlands and as a digital download on its website.

Musicians have until 8 October to submit entries of around 20 minutes of music at: http://cpulse.dmu.ac.uk/competition/ and Martyn Ware, founder member of both Heaven 17 and The Human League, will pick the winner later that month.

Cpulse, supported by De Montfort University (DMU) which champions innovation in creative technologies, is also holding a showcase event open to the public at Phoenix Square Digital Film & Media Centre on 27 August, and will launch a student record label to be called Future Innovation.

The showcase event will run from 8pm til late and is open to anyone, free of charge. See http://cpulse.dmu.ac.uk/info/events.html for details.

The record label run by DMU students will produce and distribute music created by students and is producing a 'Future Innovation' CD which will be distributed around the DMU campus, through key venues in the city and the wider East Midlands region.

For more information see http://cpulse.dmu.ac.uk/future_innovation/ or email project developer Rob Weale, Research Fellow in Music, Technology and Innovation at DMU, on rweale@dmu.ac.uk.

The Cpulse project aims to provide a digital platform for creative industries in the East Midlands along with a global online network and showcase portal.

Cpulse Music is a web-based music service incorporating:

an independent record label
artist portfolio showcase
digital sound and music video distribution
artist and music promotion
regional network facilitation
e-commerce support
events organisation

Cpulse has a rapidly growing following and can be seen on Facebook and Twitter pages.

Rob Weale said: “Thanks to the expanding network of Cpulse followers and the submissions of quality content received so far we are able to continue enhancing the profile of creative production and creative outputs in this region.

“CPulse will be key in facilitating collaborative potentials between artists within the region, and with artists from outside the region who are looking for collaborative opportunities. The showcase hub, as it expands and diversifies, will also attract industry and enterprise that requires creative content in its day to day operations - thus helping support and grow the creative economy of the region.”

Cpulse has also just established a web-based creative industry work placement/experience database which can be seen at http://cpulse.dmu.ac.uk/placements/.

Cpulse Image and Cpulse Video, a showcase for the visual arts, will also be launched soon. Artists interested in showcasing their visual work through Cpulse should contact Rob Weale on rweale@dmu.ac.uk.
