Keith Brymer Jones Ceramics
Keith Brymer Jones has been designing and making ceramics for the last 20 years. Based in Whitstable, in a studio that was once an old working bakery, Keith has created ranges for many high profile clients such as Heals, Selfridges, Laura Ashley, Barneys, Conran and Harrods, as well as being the head of design for Make International.
Keith's most well known range is the 'Word Range'- a collection of pure white ceramics in beautiful shapes with an colour inlaid word stamp on each piece.
Of the range, Keith says:
*"Suffering from dyslexia from a young age, I’ve often seen a word as an image, rather than a text giving information. So I’ve always been interested in words as a design and some words work aesthetically better than others. It’s the shape of the whole word that interests me, more than the meaning of the word itself. Having a fairly contemporary look and feel to my ceramics, I like the contrast using the old typewriter print gives with contemporary shapes."*
The word range has been increasingly popular and over the years has been expanded to include a range of "Cookshop" products as well as an increasing selection of words on each product shape. The range now also includes a set of tins and kitchen fabrics.
Alongside the word range, Keith has designed the fantastic "Punk Range"- giving a twist on well known songs with slogans like Sex, Mugs Rock ‘N' Roll, God Save the Tea and Smells like Tea Spirit stamped on a white porcelain body (the typeset recalling fonts used in old newspapers and books) and with a feature safety pin carefully placed so it doesn't interfere with drinking or holding, as well as the lovely "Baby" sets with small sized cups, plates and bowls with the word boy or girl with a star or heart inlaid in blue or pink.
Keith also works alongside other designers to create other ranges. For example, Martin Wiscombe, Neisha Crosland and Jane Packer.
