Jane Gowans

Hello my name is Jane Gowans. I am based in Dundee, where I graduated in 2009 from Duncan of Jordanstone with a 1st class design degree.

My bold, angular matchstick range was created in 2010. It combines striking precious metal design with white enamel paint to offer a unique aesthetic and a progressive approach to contemporary craft.

My designs often push against the grain of traditional expectations. I am passionate and hugely inspired by life. The matchstick range observes the importance of tactile conversations between people and materials whilst in my degree show work the focus was communication through human contact.

From an early age I have been a designer. It was something that was intuitive perhaps, problem solving through process and experimentation. This progressed through playing as a child to its application in the form of a career as a jewellery designer in my adult life. It is what makes me tick.

I have recently been featured in Irish fashion magazine NONE, had work on the front cover of the Sunday Herald supplement and worked with EMI records.
